It all started at NolaCon…

Myself, my partner, and a new hacker friend were sharing a drink on the sweltering patio overlooking Bourbon Street, when an idea was hatched. We needed to make a DEF CON meet-up for all the goths and goth-adjacents, so we could wear our favorite outfits, feel confident, make new friends, and be an inclusive space.

So, I made sure that happened.

Since that humid May night, we have held 1 flash-mob, 1 wildly successful DEF CON-official dance party, and 2 Covid-Safe digital parties.

I now have a team of four other dedicated helpers, and work with DEF CON Parties planning team, the hotels, designers, and more. We have a twitter account and a Discord server for year-round community.

While a goth-themed party (at a hacking convention) may seem silly to some, it is our way to create a safe, inclusive space for anyone. You don’t have to be a goth to join, you just can’t be a jerk.

If you want to support GOTHCON, we have shirts for sale on Etsy.
